The Mississauga Youth Film Festival was started by three high school students in the Mississauga region united by the common goal of promoting the artistic talents of their generation to the city and the world. These three youths were inspired by the immense talents surrounding them, displayed in their everyday life. After having seen the wonderful films produced by their schoolmates during a school-wide film festival, the three youths were truly amazed and wished to bring all these talents to a bigger stage. As a result, they established the Mississauga Youth Film Festival, designed to unite young cinematographic talents within the city, and present them with the opportunity to have their films screened on the big screen, in front of not just their classmates and friends, but also professional judges and community members.
As a part of REBEL, the MYFF had a successful inaugural year in 2013, where it was able to feature around 8 films made by the youths of Mississauga to please a crowd of over 170 audience members, including many renowned local cinematographers and producers, for over 2 hours. All of the groups submitted films of superb quality, and best three films were selected by judges to receive certificates and awards (some including monetary rewards) to congratulate the groups for their efforts. MYFF 2014, MYFF 2015, MYFF 2016, and MYFF 2017 were even more successful!
As the sixth year of the MYFF, the organizing committee of MYFF 2018 is committed to make this year even better and greater than the last four, with more participation, more excitement, more prizes, more opportunities, more talents, and more fun. We have no doubt that MYFF 2018 will be an event to remember!
